Prof Yoshinori Shirakata

Prof Yoshinori Shirakata graduated in Dentistry at the Kagoshima University in 1998. In 2002, he received his PhD in Periodontics, at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University, for his work on the effect of a novel injectable calcium phosphate cement on periodontal wound healing/regeneration. In 2011, he was awarded a one-year research scholarship at the department of periodontology, University of Bern, Switzerland. Currently, Dr Shirakata is an Associate Professor in the department of periodontology at Kagoshima University, Japan. He has authored international peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and served on the editorial boards of Periodontology 2000, Clinical Oral Investigations and BMC Oral Health.

His research focuses are periodontal tissue engineering approaches using various bioactive agents, biomaterials, cells, and mechanical stress in pre-clinical and clinical settings.
