EVENTO

Over the past decade, extensive preclinical and clinical research has provided solid scientific evidence supporting novel treatment protocols for periodontitis and peri-implantitis. These advances have led to the development of adjunctive biomaterials that can now be successfully integrated into clinical practice. Based on these findings, the combined use of a gel containing sodium hypochlorite and amino acids designed to facilitate cleaning (PERISOLV®), followed by the application of a naturally cross-linked hyaluronic acid (hyaDENT® BG), has been shown to enhance periodontal and bone regeneration. This approach has resulted in significantly greater clinical improvements compared to conventional methods used until now.

Currently, robust evidence indicates that the adjunctive subgingival application of sodium hypochlorite/amino acid in conjunction with either non-surgical or surgical debridement, followed by the application of xHyA, not only leads to significant clinical improvements—evidenced by reductions in probing depth and gains in clinical attachment—but also promotes periodontal regeneration, as demonstrated by the formation of new cementum, periodontal ligament, and bone. These findings mark a paradigm shift in periodontal therapy, demonstrating for the first time that periodontal regeneration can be achieved through non-surgical periodontal therapy, provided that the combination of sodium hypochlorite/amino acid (also known as Clean&Seal) is utilized.

Moreover, very recent findings suggest that this concept can also be successfully applied to the treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis.

The aim of the symposium is to provide an overview of the available preclinical and clinical evidence supporting the use of xHyA in the treatment of periodontitis and peri-implantitis. Additionally, it will offer clear recommendations for clinicians on why, when, and how to implement these novel concepts in daily clinical practice.
